Call to regulate working hours of officers

Our Bureau

Mangalore, Dec. 24 The 15th Conference of Karnataka Bank Officers’ Organisation (KBOO) has called upon the Indian Banks Association (IBA) and the Government to regulate the working hours for officers in the banking industry.

A resolution passed at the conference said the officers in the banking industry are under compulsion to come to the office early and are forced to leave very late on a regular basis.

Though in exceptional situations officers may have to work beyond working hours, exceptions have become the rule of the day.

Issues such as cutthroat competition, reduction of manpower at various levels and lack of sufficient number of technology-savvy personnel have made the life of officers in the industry more miserable.

The officers in the banking industry seek regulated working hours in consonance with the universally accepted service conditions, the resolution said.

The conference also called upon the managements of the banks to discuss the issue of the compassionate appointment scheme with the unions and finalise a scheme at the earliest.

It asked the IBA to take necessary steps to offer one more option to the officers to switch over to the pension scheme.
