Firm prices: Raw cotton waiting to be lifted from the Cotton Corporation of India market yard at Nakrekal in Nalgonda district, Andhra Pradesh. Despite projections of a record crop of over 300 lakh bales this season ending September 2008, cotton prices are ruling firm on hopes of increased demand and exports. For example, the popular Shankar-6 variety is currently being quoted at Rs 19,700 a candy of 355.56 kg against Rs 17,900 during the same period a year ago. –
