The Thiruvananthapuram-based Toonz Animation India Pvt Ltd and Percept Picture Company have announced the release of the animated feature film Return of Hanuman.

Addressing a press conference here on Friday, Mr P. Jayakumar, CEO, Toonz Group, said that Return of Hanuman is the first full-length 2D animated film made by Toonz Animation for Indian audiences. Toonz and Percept Picture Company will also co-produce another film, Hanuman 3. This is likely to be a full-length 3D film and will be released in 2009, he added.

While Return of Hanuman has been released across most parts of the country today, it will be screened across the South on January 14. The film, which is currently available in Hindi, will also be dubbed in other languages such as Tamil and Telugu, Mr Jayakumar said. The 90-minute film, produced for Rs 12 crore, is a blend of mythology and contemporary life and is a sequel to the animated film Hanuman released a few years ago, he pointed out. Merchandise, comics and games based on the film have also been launched, he added.

The company is also working on Geeth Mahabarath, an animated musical television series based on the Mahabarata. It is in discussions with television channels for broadcasting this series, Mr Jayakumar said. Toonz is also working on three animated serials for BBC and animated films for leading international entertainment companies such as Sony Entertainment, Paramount and Universal Studios, he added.
