Mumbai, Dec 28 Rashtriya Chemicals & Fertilizers Ltd signed a MoU on Friday GAIL for jointly setting up coal gasification project at Talcher in Orissa, according a BSE notice. The gasification process produces synthesis gas, which can be used in production of ammonia, urea and other chemicals. Department of Fertilisers, has entrusted RCF with revival of closed fertiliser units at Talcher and Durgapur in West Bengal. As a part of study for revival of Talcher unit, RCF carried out tech no economic feasibility study and found coal gasification process economically viable. The existing gas resources of the country are continuously depleting. Considering the constraints, RCF and GAIL independently explored possibility of utilising coal, which is abundantly available in the country. Both companies carried out simultaneous studies on viability of coal gasification plants for chemical and fertiliser complex. The studies have indicated viability of such a project, the notice said. – Our Bureau More Stories on : Alliances & Joint Ventures | Petroleum | GAIL (India) Ltd
