Mumbai, Dec 28 The 125-cc scooter, Kinetic SYM Flyte, from the Kinetic-SYM association, was launched in Mumbai on Friday.

The advanced scooter with features such as easy front-fuelling, telescopic suspension and instant start is being launched in several centres across India and 5,000 units have been sold in the first two months. Kinetic brand ambassador and film actress Bipasha Basu received the 5000th scooter.

Flyte is the first launch from the collaboration between Indian scooter major Kinetic Motor and Taiwan’s $1.1-billion SYM. “Gearless scooter segment has grown by 30 per cent in the last one year and slated to increase for 10 years. The segment of urban riding will be dominated by gearless scooters. We aim to increase the monthly sales of Flyte to 8,000 by July,” said Ms Sulajja Firodia Motwani, Managing Director Kinetic Motor Company at the launch of the scooter in Mumbai. The company has launched an aggressive nation-wide promotional campaign.

“Our primary target is young women including students, professionals and the newly married. The secondary target is older women and boys. Our dealers say that a lot of men also like it,” Ms Motwani said. The young Indian woman has changed from being bubbly, sweet and delicate to confident, ambitious and modern; the 125 cc scooter suits the growing requirement of Indian women, claim the manufacturers.

The new model with added features like central locking, anti-theft magnetic key, mobile phone charging, crash resistant mirrors and huge storage is priced at Rs 36,837 ex showroom Mumbai. Manufacturers claim a 45 km to 50 km per litre mileage for the scooter.
