Spot rubber rules steady

Kottayam, Dec. 31 Spot rubber continued to rule flat on Monday. RSS 4 finished the final day of the year 2007 unchanged at Rs 94 a kg both at Kottayam and Kochi as on Saturday. The activities were dull since the leading international markets were on long holidays. Most of the participants were in a celebrating mood to welcome 2008.

Futures firm

The rubber futures ended almost steady on NMCE quoting the January futures at Rs 96.50 (96.72), February at Rs 98.11 (98.36), March at Rs 99.80 (100.17) and April at Rs 101.83 (101.78) per kg for RSS 4. The open interest stood at 9,050 (8,769) tonnes and volumes 1,000 (526) tonnes. The open positions were 3,057 (3,042) lots in January, 3,786 (3,733) lots in February, 1,775 (1,594) lots in March and 432 (400) lots in April. The January futures downed the shutters at Rs 96.25 (96.50) a kg on MCX.

Spot prices were (Rs/kg): RSS-4: 94 (94); RSS-5: 92 (92); ungraded: 90 (90); ISNR 20: 91 (91) and latex 60 per cent: 61.50 (61.50).
