Aggressive buying props up spot rubber

Kottayam, Jan. 5 Spot rubber finished higher at the weekend session. The market made all-round gains as covering groups turned aggressive though there was not any genuine consumer-based buying reported from the main marketing centres. Sheet rubber flared up to Rs 95.50 from Rs 94.50 and Rs 95.00 a kg respectively at Kottayam and Kochi.

Rubber futures showed a steady trend on NMCE. The January contract concluded at Rs. 97 ( 96.94), February at Rs 98.85 ( 98.85), March at Rs 100.80 ( 100.82) and April at Rs. 102.48 ( 102.55) per kg for RSS 4.

Open interest up

The open interest rose to 10,089 ( 9,973 ) tonnes with 2,616 ( 2,635 ) tonnes in January, 4,407 ( 4,367) tonnes in February, 2,367 ( 2,290) tonnes in March and 699 ( 681 ) tonnes in April.

Spot prices (Rs per kg) were: RSS-4 : 95.50 ( 94.50 ); RSS-5 : 92.50 ( 92); ungraded : 91.50 (90.50); ISNR 20: 91.50 ( 91) and latex 60%: 61.50 ( 61.50).
