Award for Malappuram couple

Kottayam, Jan. 5

The Karshakashri Award, instituted by Malayala Manorama this year, goes to a farmer couple from Malappuram — Mr C.M. Mohamed and his wife Mrs Shakeela Mohamed. The award carries a cash price of Rs 2 lakh, a medallion and a citation. Announcing the award, Mr K.M. Mathew, Chief Editor, said that the recipients were role models in the field. The ten-acre-farm stands as a model to fellow farmers with its multiple cropping pattern. Mrs Shakeela had gone a step further and adopted various measures for value addition such as production of virgin coconut oil and vanilla sherbet. The judging committee appreciated the achievements of Mr Mohamed and the support rendered by his wife. The judging committee consisted of Dr M.S. Swaminathan, Dr V. Kurian, Mr K.R. Viswambharan, Dr T.R. Gopalakrishnan, Mr Jacob Mathew and Mr R.T. Ravivarma.
