RBI’s welcome move

THE Reserve Bank of India’s (RBI) suggestion to allow the customers of one bank to use ATMs of other banks free of cost is be welcome.

Customers should not be held responsible if they are unable to find any ATM of their bank in their current location. So, it is the responsibility of the bank to ensure uninterrupted access to ATMs for the customers.

Further, there is nothing wrong accessing ATMs of third-party banks without any charges because it is the confusion over the charges that often discourages the customers from accessing other banks’ ATMs.

This may even lead to banks losing their customers. Banks opposing the RBI’s move (reliance on inter-bank ATMs) must understand that their customers could be affected as well. They should look at the move from the customer’s point of view.
