Information Technology Bank tech awards event tomorrow Our Bureau Mumbai, Jan. 7 The use of technology has helped banks extend the scope of operations beyond branch banking and move on to alternative channels like Internet banking, telephone banking, ATM and so on. For the last four years, Indian Banks’ Association and Trade Fairs & Conferences International have jointly been giving awards to recognise and reward the best use of technology in banks. In the first year of its inception, there were eight categories of awards, which increased to 14 last year. This, year the total number of award categories is 15. There were 134 nominations from 28 banks for the 15 categories. The Banking Technology Awards 2007 will be held on January 9, in Mumbai. The day-long seminar will feature several senior-level bank officials and experts from the IT industry. The speakers include Mr M.B.N. Rao, Chairman and Managing Director, Canara Bank and Chairman, IBA; Mr R. B. Burman, Executive Director, RBI; and Mr K. R. Kamath, Executive Director, Bank of India. Concurrent expoThe Fourth Banking Technology 2008 Conference and Expo, which will be held concurrently with the Banking Technology Awards, will address core technology issues. The full day multi-track conference will discuss critical business and technology-related issues The highlight of this year’s conference is the keynote address by Dr Sam Pitroda, Chairman, National Knowledge Commission.
