India as export hub

India ‘s share in world exports is a paltry 4 per cent and the Central Government has planned to increase this to 8 per cent in next three years.

It is true we have increased our export share globally from 0.8 per cent to this level in eight years.

To make the leap to 8 per cent, however, the Centre has to think ahead and start several management institutes in such places as Tiruchi, Madurai, Visakhapatnam, Ernakulam, Surat, Nagpur, Raipur, Jaipur, Ranchi, etc.

The Centre has already given its nod for an IIM at Coimbatore but it should also consider opening management schools in Tier 2 and 3 locations throughout the country.

This will ensure that youngsters are enabled to cultivate the entrepreneurial spirit and imbibe the best managerial skills to run enterprises.
