11.3% rise in SER throughput in April-Dec

Kolkata, Jan. 9 In the first nine months of the current fiscal (April to December), South Eastern Railway posted 11.3 per cent growth in the loading of revenue-earning freight at 80.5 million tonnes (mt), 8.2 mt more than that in the same period of last year, according to SER.

The item-wise break-ups show that iron ore accounted for the largest share, 48.7 mt; followed by coal, 13.6 mt; pig iron and finished steel, 8.2 mt; cement, 4.5 mt; general merchandise, 2 mt; raw materials for steel plants (other than iron ore), 1.4 mt; and one million tonnes of petroleum products.

The freight earnings during the period was up 8.5 per cent at Rs 3,863 crore.
