Education States - Kerala Academy to resume flight training Our Bureau Thiruvananthapuram, Jan. 9 The city-based Rajiv Gandhi Aviation Academy is expected to resume pilot training in about two months. Announcing this at a press conference today after receiving a new four-seater Cessna aircraft, the State Minister for Law and Parliamentary Affairs, Mr M. Vijayakumar, said that two new four-seater aircraft have been bought for the academy at a cost of Rs 2 crore. The academy will also get another modern Cessna aircraft free of cost from the Aero Club. The application for undertaking flying training has been submitted to the Director General of Civil Aviation, he said. New facilities for the academy are currently being set up. There are also plans to start an aeronautical engineering course, he added. Fee structureCompared to the Rs 23 lakh charged by private aviation training institutions, the Government-controlled academy will charge only Rs 14 lakh as fees, the Minister said. On an hourly basis, Rs 6,500 will be charged for an hour’s training. Admissions will be based on a State-level entrance test, an interview and a medical test. Students who graduate from the academy will find jobs as there is shortage of pilots in the country, he added.
