Cargotec to strengthen presence in India

Our Bureau

Pune, Jan. 10 Cargotec, provider of cargo handling solutions, today announced the launch of its Cargotec Engineering India to meet the global product development requirements for Cargotec Corporation.

Talking to newspersons, Mr Seppo Saarinen, Vice-President, Technology Development, Cargotec Corporation, and Mr Peeyush Kaushik, General Manager, Cargotec Engineering India, said that the initial plan is to start with a 5,000 sq ft facility in Pune.

It is to expand its product development capabilities and become a centre of excellence in analysis for Hiab, Kalmer and MacGregor, its three business areas. Hiab (Bangalore) is the player in on-road handling solutions, Kalmar (Navi Mumbai) provides equipment and services for container handling and other heavy material handling and MacGregor provides marine cargo flow solutions, offshore solutions and services. He said that since MacGregor did not have a permanent presence in the country, the company would be making its presence felt more in the domestic market for increasing the efficiency of loading and unloading.

Mr Seppo said that the centre would have 60 mechanical, analysis, software and control engineers. The support would be for fields of engineering, analysis, design, drafting and controls development. He noted that the investment for the centre was about 0.4 million Euros. He said that the facility would have 52 workstations and would be operational by the second half of January 2008.

Also in the pipeline is a plan to bring all the four divisions under one umbrella of Cargotec India, he added.
