Information Technology Catholic Syrian picks Sun Micro tool for core banking
IT adoption: Mr Bhaskar Pramanik (left), President- India GEM, Sun Microsystems India, and Mr R Venkataraman, Chairman, Catholic Syrian Bank, at a press conference in Chennai on Thursday. – Our Bureau Chennai, Jan. 10 Catholic Syrian Bank has selected Sun Microsystems to implement its core banking solution (CBS) that will help customers access the bank’s services through the Web, branch or ATMs (automated teller machines). The bank will migrate to the CBS from the existing total branch automation product. It will spend Rs 40 crore on the solution, which includes hardware, software, application and network, the bank’s chairman, Mr R. Venkatraman, told newspersons without disclosing the value of deal with Sun. The centralised banking solution (called Maarvel) was developed jointly with Laser Soft, a Chennai-based company. Sun has provided servers and storage devices and Wipro is the system integrator. A few branches will be integrated in the next couple of months, and by August the entire bank will be under CBS. The bank has 356 branches and 90 per cent of its deposits are from retail customers, he said. Mr Bhaskar Pramanik, President, Sun Microsystems India, said in addition to providing technology hardware, Sun has supported the bank’s core banking initiative with Sun’s 24X7 ‘spectrum’ services to eliminate IT interruption and downtime. The company’s other banking customers include Canara Bank, HDFC, Citibank, Indian Overseas Bank and ICICI, he said. More Stories on : Information Technology | Private Banks
