Broadband States - Karnataka BSNL expands broadband in Dakshina Kannada Our Bureau Mangalore, Jan. 11 The Dakshina Kannada Telecom District of Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd (BSNL) has expanded broadband service in many semi-urban and rural areas under its jurisdiction. Of the 250 telephone exchanges in Dakshina Kannada telecom district, 64 exchanges are offering broadband connections to the customers, according to Mr T.N. Sudheendrakumar, Principal General Manager, Dakshina Kannada Telecom District. Addressing presspersons here on Friday, Mr Sudheendrakumar said that BSNL introduced the broadband facility in Mangalore and Udupi areas in the first phase of implementation. Now the service has been extended in many semi-urban areas like Puttur, Sullia and Kundapur, and in rural areas such as Gramachavadi, Shankarapura and Polali. InfrastructureInfrastructure has been strengthened to meet the demand for broadband in the telecom district. Dakshina Kannada telecom district – which includes Dakshina Kannada and Udupi revenue districts – has 3.01 lakh working landline connections. As many as 12,625 customers have availed the benefit of broadband service in the district. At a time when more and more landline users are moving towards mobile telephone services, a value-added service such as broadband is gaining popularity in urban, semi-urban and rural areas, he said.
