Bio-tech & Genetics Biocon Q3 net at Rs 45.58 cr Our Bureau Bangalore, Jan. 17 Biocon Ltd posted a standalone profit after tax of Rs 45.58 crore for the third quarter ending December 31, 2007, down about 4 per cent (Rs 47.51 crore) from the same period the previous year. This, however, excludes the one-time exceptional pre-tax gain the company made during the quarter after it sold its enzymes business; including that gain, the net profit was just over Rs 284 crore. Biocon sold its enzymes business to Novozymes during the previous quarter for $ 115 million (around Rs 460 crore). This also reflected as a Q3 pre-tax profit of Rs 330 crore on a consolidated basis, the company said. Net sales of Rs 194.19 crore for the October-December 2007 quarter was 9.2 per cent lower year on year. The enzymes divestment again perked up the total income to Rs 219.62 crore. Consolidated nine-month revenues touched Rs 811 crore, and excluding the enzymes business, grew 21 per cent year on year. It showed an EBITDA of Rs 240 crore, up 20 per cent; and profit after tax of Rs 160 crore, up 15 per cent.
