Opinion - Letters
China factor

The joint statement of India and China “A shared vision for the 21st century of India and China” has strengthened the ties between the two countries, even if it reiterates several earlier resolutions.

Among other things, the bilateral trade target is expected to touch $60 billion by 2010.

But if the present imbalance in trade continues, India will be in a very awkward position.

The editorial “China factor” (Business Line, January 18) is well-timed and cautions the government to rework its strategies in this regard.

In this context, the ability of China to keep its yuan down that gives it an advantage is also to be taken into account.
