Policy Industry & Economy - Rural Development States - Andhra Pradesh Tribals can soon sell in open market Hyderabad, Jan. 21 Tribals in Andhra Pradesh will soon be allowed to sell their non-timber produce in the open market. The Andhra Pradesh Government has agreed in-principle to allow them to access the markets in order to help them get better revenues. Currently, the Girijan Cooperative Corporation (GCC) procures all the forest produce (non-timber) from the tribals and sells them in the market after processing them. “While continuing to do its current activities, the GCC should also fix the minimum support price to forest produce so that tribals can get reasonable prices,” Dr Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, Chief Minister, said. He asked the officials to prepare plans to extend the ‘pavala vaddi scheme’ (three per cent interest rate) loans to Vana Samrakshana Samithi programmes, a Government release said. — Our Bureau More Stories on : Policy | Rural Development | Andhra Pradesh
