Population stabilisation

This is with reference to the article “Population stabilisation: Time to march forward” (Business Line, January 22 ) . The Working group on population stabilisation, along with the tasks of strengthening the family welfare infrastructure and increasing male involvement, must take on the task of educating women on the need for family planning in the current social and economic scenario.

The article rightly recalls the statement of the Mahatma which states that women’s education and freedom are two important elements in population control.

Educated and motivated woman can convince the men and solicit their co-operation for family control. Hence, the Working Group on population stabilisation must regularly conduct programmes by which they can reach and educate the rural women folk.
