Outlook Marketing - Strategy Web Extras - HCV/LCV/Tractors Piaggio to offer customised variants of LCVs Our Bureau Hyderabad, Jan. 24 Piaggio Vehicles, part of Italian-automaker Piaggio, on Thursday announced its intent to offer customised variants of their sub-one tonne light commercial vehicles (LCVs), a segment which is growing at a fast pace in the country. The Director of Sales, Piaggio Vehicles, Mr Ashutosh Khosla, said that the company has created a base for 24,000 units of ape LCV, with an option to expand this to 36,000 per annum. The demand for such vehicles has shot up with transporters upgrading from three-wheeler cargo vehicles. Announcing the launch of ape LCV in Andhra Pradesh, Mr Khosla said that the lower end of LCV segment in India is seeing a major upheaval. The Supreme Court ban on overloading of cargo vehicles and a ban on entry of heavy commercial vehicles into city roads has turned the focus squarely on the LCV and sub-LCV segment.
“Anticipating the need for a sub-tonne pickup that would economically and efficiently fill the gap between the lower end of the LCV category and the larger three-wheeler, Piaggio has introduced its ape Truk,” he said. Asked if they expect to launch a passenger variant of this LCV, Mr Khosla said that no such plans have been firmed up as yet. However, it would not be appropriate to rule this option out at this point. The company appointed Ramcor Marketing as one its dealers for ape Truk near Hyderabad. Piaggio is developing two distinct dealerships for three wheelers and four-wheeler ape Truk. More Stories on : Outlook | Strategy | HCV/LCV/Tractors
