Railways Variety - Tourism States - Tamil Nadu ‘Regal Rajasthan on Wheels’ to start its run in November T. Murrali Chennai, Jan. 27 Rajasthan Tourism Development Corporation (RTDC) will be introducing the second ‘Palace on Wheels’ train from November this year. Speaking to Business Line on the sidelines of a road show on ‘The Great Indian Travel Bazaar 08’, the Principal Secretary to the Government (Department of Tourism and Civil Aviation), Ms Mira Mehrishi, said seats on the current Palace on Wheels were booked till 2009 and the second train was planned due to “skyrocketing” demand. The 82-seater rake is getting ready at the Integral Coach Factory in Chennai. The new train — Regal Rajasthan on Wheels — would run from November on the same route, but on different dates so that the travellers can get more options, she said. More expensiveThe new train would be about 30 per cent more expensive, due to more luxurious offerings. It would have fewer seats, 82, instead of 104. The current tariff per day for Palace on Wheels is about $525 for single occupancy, $450 per head for double occupancy and $325 for triple occupancy. The bookings for Regal Rajasthan will commence from middle of this year, she added.
