Foreseen corrections

This refers to the editorial, “Difficult recovery” (Business Line, January 23). Be it the sub-prime crisis or the economic slowdown in the US, the Indian stock market may face further corrective steps as the valuations and prices are much swollen.

Though the economy is still in the galloping stage, the stock market seems to reverse its performance on account of various other factors such as stretched valuations and liquidity problems.

The banks have been asked to help the broking houses to tide over the situation. A country with growing corporate profits and other economic parameters, working in tandem with the overall growth process, needs to have a re-look on the ways and means to regulate the stock prices to protect the investors’ interests at large.
