Bombay Dyeing posts Rs 37-cr loss

Our Bureau

Mumbai, Jan. 30 Dragged down by high raw material costs, Bombay Dyeing & Manufacturing Company incurred a net loss of Rs 37 crore for the quarter ended December 31, 2007.

The company had reported a net profit of Rs 7 crore in the corresponding period last year.

“Commercial production of PSF (polyester staple fibre), based on PTA (purified terephthalic acid) as feedstock, commenced from October 1, 2007, and hence, the results for the current period are not comparable with the previous period,” the company said in a BSE announcement.

Higher input costs

Further, the performance of the PSF division during the period under review was adversely impacted by increase in the price of raw materials, which could not be passed on to the consumers on account of the oversupply situation in the PSF market, the company added.

Net sales for the quarter were up 2.73 per cent at Rs 292 crore against Rs 107 crore for the corresponding quarter a year ago.
