Tea Good demand for select CTCs in N. India tea sale Our Bureau Kolkata, Feb 3 Last week, selected blacker cleaner CTC offerings at the auctions in North India continued to see good competition and sold well around last levels, according to the tea auctioneers, J. Thomas & Company Private Ltd. Remainder, comprising primarily end of season quality, saw less demand at easier rates. There was good support from one of the major blenders while the other major packeteers were selective. Internal sections continued to operate as usual. The Calcutta orthodox sale followed a similar pattern with an easier market except for selected well made varieties which sold at around last levels. Hindustan Unilever was the major buyer with fair support from the West Asia shippers and selective enquiries from other sections. Darjeeling offerings saw an easier trend following the decline in quality. Local dealers and a major packeteer were the main buyers. CROP AND OFFERINGSAuction arrivals continue to show a decline each week as production has ceased during winter dormancy. INTERNATIONAL MARKETSThe demand for dust teas at Mombasa market continued to be very strong and once again appreciated sharply in value. Remaining grades were irregular while fannings met with less demand. More Stories on : Tea
