Kerala promises better amenities to investors

Our Bureau

Thiruvananthapuram, Feb. 6 The Kerala Government is committed to give more opportunities to investors and industrialists to ensure the State’s industrial development, according to the Industries Minister, Mr Elamaram Kareem.

He said here on Wednesday, while opening a national workshop organised by the Central Textiles Committee, that many pieces of land acquired by the Government for industrial development purpose had been lying unutilised for want of basic infrastructure.

Even half-a-per cent of the State’s geographical area could not be put to use for industrial purposes, he said.

The Minister said that the Government’s policy was to use the land in its possession for industrial development and the negative approach to its good intentions was not in the right spirit.

He noted that the amendments to the laws of Intellectual Property Rights had adversely affected Third World nations, including India. The Kerala Government is actively considering branding the products made in the State’s traditional sector for sale in the domestic and international markets.

Spinning mills

Mr Kareem said that spinning mills in the State were facing problems and the Government was putting in concerted efforts to turn them around.

The Government is also bound to protect around 40 lakh traditional workers and this is aimed to be achieved through enhancing productivity and diversification.
