Extension granted for CMA CGM

The Maltese Government has granted CMA CGM an extension of its terminal concession to enable the French Group’s subsidiary to operate Malta Freeport Terminals Ltd in the Port of Marsaxlokk for 30 more years. CMA CGM was originally awarded a 30-year concession to operate and develop Malta Freeport Terminals in October 2004. Since then, the French Group expanded operations in the Maltese port by increasing its investments and creating jobs. The group’s commitment thus prompted the Maltese authorities to extend the concession to 65 years. The extension of the concession agreement marks the beginning of an ambitious expansion and modernisation programme targeting the infrastructure and equipment to enable the port to handle mega container vessels. The terminal’s capacity is expected to rise to three million TEUs annually.
