Fifth R&D centre for Panacea Biotec

New Delhi, Feb. 11 Panacea Biotec has opened a R&D centre in Mumbai for both conventional and biotech drugs. Global Research and Development Centre (GRAND) is the vaccine maker’s fifth R&D centre.

“GRAND is an integral part of our long-term strategy that would get us global recognition through development of advanced drug delivery systems in oral, injectable, pulmonary, nasal routes of administration. At GRAND, research will be conducted in high growth therapeutic areas,” said Mr Soshil Kumar Jain, Chairman, Panacea Biotec, in a release.

The research at GRAND will be an intersection of biological, clinical, pharmaceutical sciences and engineering or design to develop novel drug delivery systems (NDDS)-based products, said the company. The other four R&D Centres at Lalru, Delhi and Mohali, focus on drug delivery (pharmaceuticals), vaccines, drug discovery (bio-pharmaceuticals) and drug discovery (small molecules). Led by Dr Amarjit Singh, the 40 member team will be working in the area of cancer, diabetes, organ transplantation and hormones among other areas.
