G. Gurumurthy

Coimbatore, Feb. 17 The Parliamentary Standing Committee on Commerce is scheduled to visit Coimbatore and Tirupur on February 18 when its members will study various export infrastructure available in these commercial centres.

The 16-member committee headed by Mr Kashiram Rana is likely to visit the Coimbatore airport, the private trade fair complex promoted by the Coimbatore small scale industries association (Codissia), and the inland container terminal at Irugur. It is also expected to visit the Tirupur-based India Knit Fair complex, the Apparel Training and Design Centre, the Nethaji Apparel Park and the New Tirupur Area Development Corporation Ltd.

According to a communication from the Tirupur Exporters Association, the committee members will also participate at a meet with the knitwear exporters, being organised by the association in Tirupur on February 18.

Coimbatore and Tirupur industries, currently witnessing a manifold increase in product and process outsourcing from overseas companies, are facing serious difficulties on their supply chain infrastructure.
