Urban health mission soon

Hyderabad, Feb. 20 An Urban Health Mission will be launched across the country on the lines of rural health mission soon, according to Ms Panabaka Lakshmi, Union Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare.

Speaking to newspersons after inaugurating a three-day symposium on ‘Recent trends in reproductive health research’ here on Wednesday, the Minister said proposals to increase the incentive to each pregnant woman from Rs 1,000 to Rs 1,400 and extension of Aarogya Sri Scheme (from Andhra Pradesh) to other parts of the country were being considered by the Centre.

Over 30 lakh institutional deliveries had taken place in the country since the adoption of rural health mission and about 5.5 lakh accredited social health activists had been recruited so far to create health awareness in rural areas, she added.
