Archana Venkat Chennai, Feb 21 UK-based Caparo Group has bagged a deal (for an undisclosed amount) to build the body structure of the Rs 1-lakh Tata Nano that is slated to hit the roads in October this year. The deal also includes building and assembling about 60 per cent of the car including select inner structural panels, according to senior company officials. For this purpose, Caparo will set up a new facility adjacent to the Tata Nano manufacturing plant at Singur, West Bengal. The company will install a new semi automated production line with zero fault forward quality control systems. This would ensure high quality low cost production, which is critical for a car like the Nano. Details about the size of the deal, Caparo’s proposed investment in the Singur facility and a time frame for starting production have not been disclosed. Caparo Vehicle Products specialises in precision-formed and light-weight metal products including stampings, forgings, machining, aluminium castings and tubing, as well as a wide range of complementary products and services such as carbon composites, fasteners and module build. Caparo AP Braking supplies a wide range of base braking components and systems. More Stories on : Outlook | Cars | Tata Motors Ltd | Automobile Components
