Mandatory health cover for unorganised sector soon

New Delhi, Feb. 23 The Government plans to initially cover 1.6 crore workers of unorganised sector under its mandatory health insurance scheme, which will come into affect from April 1. Subsequently, it plans to cover nearly six crore workers in the scheme.

Inaugurating a seminar organised by Assocham on ‘Knowledge of Pension and Retirement schemes’ here, the Labour & Employment Secretary, Ms Sudha Pillai, said that workers would be given smart card by fund managers.

These provisions have already been incorporated in the Pension Reform Bill for unorganised sector.
