Hyderabad, Feb. 24 The Andhra Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (APSRTC) has announced it has secured the Union Urban Development Ministry clearance for funding of Rs 3,547 crore under the Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM).

These funds would be invested over the next three-four years to strengthen the existing infrastructure and streamline passenger experience and set up support for commercial space for malls and hospitality.

Addressing a press conference here on Saturday, APSRTC Managing Director, Mr V.Dinesh Reddy, said that the project was approved by the Central Sanctioning and Monitoring Committee of the Ministry.

These funds would be deployed in all-in-one commuter amenity centres (CACs), which provide a wide range of facilities from food courts to shopping malls to be developed within APSRTC premises. These would compliment necessary infrastructure that would streamline passenger experience in these centres through intelligent transport system and booking facilities.

As per plan, each CAC would have a high-rise structure, park and ride facility, passenger information system, rest rooms, ATMs, along with tax and bill payment facilities. To make these financially viable, APSRTC plans to have malls and also host trauma care centres.

It is proposed to develop seven amenity centres in and around Hyderabad and Secunderabad and four bus terminals.

This Central funding is aimed at developing nine demonstration cities in the country, and Hyderabad has been selected based on the APSRTC track record. For these demonstration centres, Rs 120 crore would be invested and the follow-up funding would be based on the outcome.
