Industry cheers TN’s policy for small enterprises

Our Correspondent

Madurai, Feb. 24 Trade and Industry here have welcomed the Tamil Nadu Government’s policy for micro, small and medium enterprises in the State.

The Tamilnadu Chamber of Commerce and Industry, in a statement has said that the policy is growth-oriented and proactive with well drawn out schemes to ensure accelerated growth.

While the announcement on the incentive schemes would provide the right platform for incremental growth and generation of more jobs , the rehabilitation of sick units, a highly felicitous step, would activate several closed industries. The price preference in Government purchases, notified items etc. would stimulate the sagging morale of these units and provide the necessary impetus to successfully face the intense competition under global pressure.

However the Chamber has expressed disappointment that in the list of notified thrust sectors eligible for special capital subsidy, food processing, rubber and plastic industries have been left out. Pointing out that most of the micro and small industries use Low Tension power, it has appealed for enhancing the HP Limit for Low Tension category from 150 HP to 200 HP and grant the long pending demand for 5 year holiday from labour law requirements that has been discouraging the new entrepreneurs.

The Madurai District Tiny And Small Scale Industries Association, in a statement, welcomed the policy announcement and said that the reservation of 30 per cent of space in SIPCOT Industrial Estates, subsidy schemes and proposal to establish single window system are laudable. That the announcements would take effect from February 22 itself is a very welcome step, it has added.
