Airport employees' strike
Kolkata, Feb. 26
Passengers using the Kolkata Airport are likely to get
SMS from airlines requesting them to carry lighter
luggage on March 10, if the strike deferred by the Airport
Authority Employees' union takes place on that day, said
Mr P.K. Singhal, the Regional Director of AAI (Airport
Authority of India). The nationwide indefinite strike that
threatened to disrupt normal operations in airports has
been deferred from February 26 to March 10 by the
union. "With supporting staff remaining off the job on a
strike like this, all basic infrastructure facilities like
electricity, water supply and toilets will remain closed,"
Mr Singhal said. AAI is taking all steps to persuade the
union not to go on strike, he added. - Our Bureau
