Hyderabad, Feb. 28 Contrary to the general perception that there is low intellectual property (IP) creation leading to new products, the recent Hyderabad Software Exporters Association meet reflects a significant thrust on innovation over the last year.

A member of the selection committee for the Hysea Awards, Mr Suheim Sheik, told Business Line that this year has received over 36 entries and of them, a significant number is in the products category. This augured well for the industry.

What is also heartening is that the products chosen for the innovation awards are truly world class, Hysea observed.

Product track

For instance, Effigent India’s has developed Power Easy, a software suite that enables businesses to manage key financial information using a single application and allows integration with existing payroll and point of solution (PoS).

Wings Infonet’s product, Wings E-Biz, is a suite of business management software products for small and medium business offering enterprise solutions and Embinux of SQL Star International allows users to design and develop next-generation devices based on open standards-based technologies.

Tata’s NREGS model

Significantly, Tata Consultancy Services has been chosen for the best product wherein its solution for National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme has automated the whole project and helps brings about accountability and transparency of operations related to the scheme. This has emerged as a role model for others to emulate, according to Mr Hari Kumar of Hysea.

The best innovation award goes to Testerdesk.com, an innovative online tooling platform for software testers.

According to Mr Ashwin Palaparthi, CEO of ValueLabs, which developed Testrdesk.com, their solution helps increase productivity in the software testing space. This platform does not compete with any testing tool but serves as an online tooling companion.

Mobile tech

Hyderabad-based Tanla Solutions, a provider of technology solutions for mobile carriers, was chosen as the best Indian small and medium enterprise engaged in software development. The company directly and through its subsidiaries helps telecom companies generate additional revenues through value added services.
