Opinion - Budget
Right stimulant

Sanjiv Goenka

It is a good Budget. A Budget which is sensible and incentivises growth. The Finance Minister has tried to include all sections of society in the nation’s economic progress. Strong measures have been proposed to stimulate consumption, and boost both demand and manufacturing activity, such as reduction of excise duty and reduction in the Customs duty on project imports. The reduction in the Customs duty on project imports is very favourable and will stimulate the manufacturing sector and lead to growth in investment.

The waiver of farm sector loans is welcome especially in view of the fact that the sector did not witness aggressive growth in the last four quarters.

The farm sector needed a stimulant to grow and this was the right kind of stimulant that was required. The relief to farmers shows the human side of the administration and shall give the much-needed impetus to growth in the agriculture sector. The reduction in the Customs duty on ICT, entertainment and convergence products is a very positive step.
