Visakhapatnam, March 2

The auction of bulk plots by the Visakhapatnam Urban Development Authority (VUDA) fetched Rs 190 crore on Sunday amid protests by the opposition parties.

Of the five bulk plots put on auction, three were sold. A plot of 30 acres at Rushikonda on the beach road was bought by the CBR group of Bangalore at the rate of Rs 5.25 crore per acre. Two more plots, measuring 4 acres and 4.7 acres at Kapulauppada, were bought by the Aditya Hidco group of Hyderabad at the rate of Rs 4.55 crore per acre and Rs. 4.11 crore per acre.

The activists of the Opposition parties - the Telugu Desam and the BJP - tried to disrupt the auctions and several of them were arrested. They were later released. - Our Bureau
