New Projects Tata AutoComp to invest Rs 100 cr on expansion Our Bureau New Delhi, March 5 Tata AutoComp GY Batteries on Wednesday said that it would invest Rs 100 crore to expand its four-wheeler automotive battery manufacturing capacity to one million units by October this year which would be further scaled up to 2 million units over the coming two-three years. In addition to this, the company also said that it would invest Rs 25-30 crore to commence production of two-wheeler batteries by the end of the year. “Currently, we are importing batteries for two-wheelers. But, by the end of this year, we would start manufacturing on our own,” said Mr Yogesh Dhawan, Chief Executive Officer, Tata AutoComp GY Batteries which is a joint venture between Tata AutoComp Systems Ltd and GS Yuasa since February last year. The company has secured orders to supply to Tata Motors’ Nano, Ace, Indica as well as to other original equipment manufacturers such as Piaggio. The market size for four-wheeler batteries is estimated to be at 13 million of which 10 million is for after market.
