Satyam sets up centre in Egypt

Our Bureau

Hyderabad, March 5 IT services provider Satyam Computer today commissioned a Global Solutions Centre (GSC) in Egypt, which the company sees serving as a regional hub and a near shore centre for three continents — Africa, Asia and Europe.

This centre, the company’s 28th globally, is expected to host about 300 experts within two quarters, most of them recruited locally to serve customers in the region.

The Co-Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Satyam, Mr. B. Rama Raju, said that the company has revenues of about 20 per cent from the region and this centre would form an important element to step this up as it taps into new markets.

The company is also evaluating the option of a centre in Saudi Arabia to serve the rapidly growing oil business in the region.

The Egyptian Communication Minister, Dr. Tarek Kamel, inaugurated the centre.

Answering queries on a conference call from Egypt, Mr Raju along with Mr Virender Agarwal, Head of APAC and the region, said that the centre which would harness the potential of bilingual resources (who also speak English and French) and would serve as a major technological development and software support centre for Satyam’s customers in the region.

“Our investments in the Middle East and North African markets are in line with our larger globalisation strategy,” Mr Rama Raju said.

Mr Agarwal said Satyam has recently pioneered the virtually integrated delivery model 2.0 (VIGDM), which renders services from multiple locations across the globe in real time. Mr Raju said that sports is emerging as a major focus area. Apart from winning sponsorship for World Cup Football in 2010 and 2014, the company is actively pursuing engagements in other sports such as cricket. The Egyptian centre would also play an important role on the progress towards developing solutions for the World Cup football, he said.
