Coimbatore, March 5 YES Bank and Alterra B.V., a part of the Wageningen University and Research Centre in The Netherlands have inked a pact to develop agro-logistic networks and agro food parks in India.

The MoU aims to transfer the Indian agri-business landscape through transfer of knowledge expertise, Mr Kalyan Chakravarthy, Country Head, Food and Agri Strategic Advisory Research, YES Bank said.

As per the agreement, YES Bank and Alterra would create integrated agro food parks and develop agro logistic networks with third parties.

The bank has in the initial phase identified the southern and western states of Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Maharahstra and Gujarat for creating at least 8 integrated agro food parks. In the second phase, it plans to look at Rajasthan, West Bengal, Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh and Kerala for setting up more such parks. ‘We are eventually looking at 30 consolidation centres on pan India basis,’ he said.

The clustering approach would attract leading retail food houses to anchor and plan their supply chain through these parks, Mr Chakravarthy explained.

Signing the MoU, Mr Rana Kapoor, MD and CEO, YES Bank said ‘this partnership with WUR would enable the bank to enhance its product suite and offer customised solutions to its clientele.’

Mr Kees Slingerland, Director General, Alterra, said the tie-up with the bank was in line with its mission to improve the quality of life by sharing knowledge and providing scientific solutions on issues related to agriculture and allied sectors.

YES Bank is expecting to leverage the WUR expertise to explore projects concerning water management, sustainable use of pesticides and nutrients, spatial planning and discussions on CDM.
