General Insurance National Insurance products Thiruvananthapuram, March 6 National Insurance Company has introduced two new low-premium products, Gramin Swasthya Insurance and Gramin Suraksha Insurance, aimed at the welfare and inclusive growth of the economically backward. The Centre has issued directions to the Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority (IRDA) to permit non-government organisations, selfhelp groups and micro finance institutions to act as micro insurance agents. This is expected to help the speedy implementation of the schemes to benefit the entire rural population, said Mr M.P.R. Nair, Manager at the Kochi Regional Office of National Insurance Company. As per the Micro Finance (IRDA) Regulations, 2005, NGOs, SHGs, and MFIs are eligible to act as micro insurance agents in rural and urban areas by a simple enrolling process without any registration fee. Such organisations will be free to operate on behalf of National Insurance and requires no specific qualification to do as such, Mr Nair said. - Our Bureau
