Logistics - Railways
Strengthening regional links

Yunan is set to emerge as the transportation hub between China and the South-East Asia, according to Shipping Gazette. This will happen as soon as the construction of railway links between China and Vietnam, China and Thailand and China and Myanmar are complete. The present 100-year old metre gauge rail link between Yunan and Vietnam, with limited capacity, cannot support the transportation demand between the two countries. Hence, it is being upgraded. Also, the work is in progress on the construction of railway links between China and Myanmar and China and Thailand. The highway between China’s Kunming and the Thai capital of Bangkok is likely to be ready for operation this year. Meanwhile, China is providing an air cargo inspection system to Nepal to facilitate smooth Customs clearance of air-freight at Kathmandu’s airport.
