Public Sector Banks
Mr O.P.Bhatt Mr O.P.Bhatt, Chairman, SBI, took a leaf out of many a politician’s book and made a short five minute speech in Tamil, the local language, in campaign style. While making this brave attempt and apologising for the mistakes in pronunciation, he took a light hearted dig at both the crowds and himself with this line, “ Just like your favourite stars Jyothika, Khushboo, Shreya and Pooja, I also don’t know Tamil!” The crowd joined in the merry laughter following this statement, although some may object, since one of these stars hosts a fairly popular game show in this language on a television channel. Elephant dancing!“The elephant has started dancing,” claimed a press release given on the occasion. And no. It wasn’t talking about Sivagami, the 38-year-old pachyderm from a nearby temple that was part of the welcome party for the Finance Minister. ( It was this decorated elephant, sporting the SBI’s logo on its ears, that garlanded the Finance Minister on his arrival at the venue.) The release said, “The 200-year-old public sector behemoth has stirred out of its public sector legacy and is moving with agility to give the private and foreign banks a run for their money.” All private sector tigers better be warned. Interest(ing)?Wanting to find out what the crowd’s experience with banking service had been so far, one asked a dhoti clad gentleman about whether he was getting loans the loans he wanted. He said yes. Was he getting it on time? Yes. Did he have any problems with getting funds from banks? No. What was the interest he was paying? He said he was told it was 80 paise. Was it 80 paise for every Rs 10 of loans or Rs 100 of loans? He didn’t know. More Stories on : Public Sector Banks | State Bank of India
