Sick Units Industry & Economy - SSI States - Kerala Kerala draws up revival plan for sick SSI units Our Bureau Thiruvananthapuram, Mar 10 The Kerala Government has drawn up a revival plan for sick small-scale industrial units in the State. Replying to questions in the State Assembly on Monday, the Industries Minister, Mr Elamaram Kareem, said that the plan would comprise restructuring of loans and one-time settlement of liabilities. The Transport Minister, Mr Mathew T. Thomas, said that shopping complexes would be constructed at 30 bus stations of the Kerala State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) and 29 others in the second phase on build-operate-transfer (BOT) basis. Road safetyIn reply to a question, the Minister said that the Government had initiated stringent action to curb road accidents. For one, the driving licences of 1,368 persons had been cancelled for over-speeding. The Minister for Water Resources, Mr. N.K. Premachandran, told the House that the Dam Safety Authority had visited various dams in the State and submitted instructions and recommendations to the authorities concerned. He said that the Government had decided to construct a new dam at Mullaperiyar and the Irrigation Department had been entrusted with the task of conducting a viability study and preparing a project report as preliminary steps in this direction. Besides, administrative orders had been issued for preparing a detailed investigation estimate as part which a ‘river survey’ had been set in motion. The Minister for Health, Ms. P.K. Sreemathy, informed the members that disciplinary action had been taken against 171 doctors and 113 others were issued show-cause notices for unauthorised absence from duty. Also, bond amount would be realised from the doctors who had not joined duty after going for higher studies on service quota. She said action would be taken against unlicensed medical shops functioning in private hospitals. The corporation formed for drug purchase would function in a transparent manner and life-saving drugs would be provided free of cost to patients below poverty line.
