General Insurance Marketing - Channels and Franchises MetLife targets farmers through retail chain VISWAS Our Bureau Hyderabad, March 10 MetLife India Insurance Company Ltd has tied up with VISWAS, a rural agri-products retail chain for farmers, for distributing its insurance products. As a pilot project, 50 retail outlets of VISWAS would be selling insurance products of MetLife. “By the end of 2008, the sale of our products would be extended to 250 Viswas centres in Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka and Maharashtra,” Mr Rajesh Relan, Managing Director, MetLife India, told newspersons here on Monday. VISWAS outlets would offer MetLife Suvidha, a product designed for urban and rural poor, to the farmers. “The product has been designed three years ago for small ticket insurance plans. The premium can be as low as Rs 173 for an insurance cover of Rs 4,000,” Mr Rajesh said. Through a special initiative christened as ‘Sunehre Sapne’, MetLife plans to educate farmers and other rural poor on the need for financial planning and insurance, he added. Mr Sekhar N. Chandra, Managing Director of VISWAS, said in the next few days the sale of MetLife products (on a fee-based model) would begin in East and West Godavari Districts of Andhra Pradesh to be extended to other districts within six months.
