Our Bureau New Delhi, March 10 GSM-based mobile operators added 5.9 million users in February, about 3 lakh less than what they added in January, according to the Cellular Operators Association of India. The decrease has been primarily due to lower additions by state-owned Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd and Aircel compared to the previous month. The total GSM (global system of mobile communications) mobile subscriber base is now at 184 million. Bharti Airtel leadsBharti Airtel Ltd led the pack, signing 2.3 million new users in February to take its total to 59.7 million. Airtel’s market share is now 32.32 per cent of the GSM industry. Vodafone Essar is at the second spot in the GSM market with an addition of 1.4 million new users, swelling its subscribers to 42.6 million. Idea Cellular added 9,18,871 users in February, taking total subscriber base to 22.9 million users. BSNL, third-largest player, added 8,24,284 subscribers, taking its total to 34.6 million. BSNL had added over a million subscribers and the slow down may be due to crunch in capacity it has been facing over the past few months. Maxis-owned Aircel added only 2,51,367 compared to 5,05,729 in January. More Stories on : Telecommunications | Bharti Tele-Ventures Ltd
