Trade & Labour Unions States - Tamil Nadu Wage accord at Nilgiri plantations Our Bureau Coimbatore, March 11 A wage accord has been reached between the Nilgiri Planters Association (NPA) and the various plantation unions in the district after several rounds of discussion. The latest settlement has come into effect from January 1, 2008. Trade union representatives affiliated to the INTUC, LPF, ATP and HMS signed the new wage settlement on March 6, covering a workforce of around 12,000 workers. As per the settlement, the workers would be paid Rs 90 per day, inclusive of a ‘terrain allowance’ of Rs 4. A release from NPA said that the managements have considered a considerable increase to the incentive wage rates and job differential wages. The settlement also provided a ‘price-linked bonus’ at 7 paise for every rupee increase in the average sale price of tea produced in Tamil Nadu in excess of Rs 50 per kg and sold in the auction centres of Coonoor, Coimbatore and Kochi.
