Hubli rly divn records growth in earnings

The Hubli Division of South Western Railway (SWR) Zone has recorded an increase of 23.13 per cent in originating earnings till February-end during the current financial year.

Speaking at the Divisional Railway Users’ Consultative Committee meeting at Hubli on Tuesday, Mr Rakesh Vatash, Divisional Railway Manager, Hubli Division, said that the total originating earnings of the division stood at Rs 2,660.17 crore up to February 2008 as against Rs 2351.97 crore in the corresponding period of the previous year.

The originating freight loading of goods has gone up to 35.23 million tonnes (34.18 million tonnes) till February, recording a marginal increase of 3.1 per cent.

Passenger traffic

Till February, the passenger traffic witnessed a growth of 18.88 per cent. The passenger traffic number stood at 2.33 crore (1.96 crore) during the period.

Quoting Mr Vatash, a press release by the Hubli Division of SWR said here on Wednesday that 208 extra coaches of various classes have been augmented to different trains during November 2007-Febraury 2008, to clear extra rush.

Mr Vatash said that Rs 1057.56 crore has been allotted to SWR zone in the budget outlay for 2008-09 on various heads such as new lines, gauge conversion, traffic facilities and other specified works.
