Pune students to visit NASA

Pune, March 12 Over 50 students from various city schools here will travel to the NASA Space and Rocket Centre. The trip is being organised by the Pune-based Guardian Education, an offshoot of Guardian Holidays.

This 10 night-11 day trip includes a 7 night-8 day stay at the space centre, in which the students will participate in the space academy workshops, Mr Sandeep Joshi, Director, Guardian Education, has said.

During their stay, students will explore concepts of space history including Apollo missions and shuttle exhibits, and understand astronaut training methods, covering topics like the gravity chair, G Force and mars stimulator.

A special session on robotics designing, where trainees become NASA engineers and design a robot capable of a variety of tasks, is also being organised. Topics such as astronomy and night telescope, introduction to international space stations, Russian space history (Sputnik), aerodynamics and aeronautics, land survival, and flight physiology would be covered.

A mid-week review will also be conducted.

Mr Joshi added that Guardian Education is also arranging an official student’s exchange programme with the Japanese Government at Ishikawa Prefecture soon.
